The SYNC Scores

The SYNC (Symptom duration, Neutrophilic granulocytes, Charlson comorbidity index, 3rd day CRP, 5th day CRP) Scores were developed to quickly assess the probability of failure of a single surgical intervention in patients suffering from septic arthritis of the knee or shoulder joint.

Two score versions are available: The SYNC3 for risk assessment on the 3rd postoperative day, and the SYNC5 for risk assessment on the 5th day after surgery, respectively. Based on the score results, patients are divided into a low, intermediate, and high risk group.

Keep in mind that this is an unvalidated scoring system based on a retrospective study. For further information please refer to the related publication*.
